2012 WINNERS
RAAF Proficiency and Leadership Awards
1. As a values based organisation, I believe it is very important to recognise the efforts of our people. The RAAF Proficiency and Leadership Awards exist to acknowledge and recognise the outstanding performance and achievements of Air Force personnel and units over the previous year. The awards are primarily awarded to Air Force personnel, Air Force units or other Australian Defence Organisation elements whose primary purpose is to project or support air operations.
2. I am pleased to announce the winners of the RAAF Proficiency and Leadership Awards as follows:
- AVM B.A. Eaton ‘Airman of the Year’ Award. Awarded to an airman of the rank of corporal or below to recognise the calibre of the individual and their significant contribution to both the Service and community:
(1) 2012 winner – CPL J.A. Cox 8441648, 37SQN.
- AVM Tony Dietz Memorial Quality and Achievement Medallion. Awarded to recognise outstanding achievements in, and contributions to, the quality of logistics support to Air Force capability. To emphasise the joint responsibility of military and civilian personnel the award has two categories:
(1) 2012 winner – Military award – WGCDR T.W. Winterford 8183390, TFSPO AMB; and
(2) 2012 winner – Civilian award – Mr T. Worland 8505202, HQAC.
- Chief of Air Force Instructor of the Year Award. This award highlights the unquestionable importance of training and education to the Air Force and formally recognises commissioned officers who excel in this field:
(1) 2012 winner – FLTLT M.D. Leonard 8185195, 77SQN.
- Her Majesty The Queen’s Gold Medal. Awarded by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth the Second to the most outstanding officer trainee from OTS or ADFA to recognise exemplary conduct, outstanding performance of duty and influence on fellow officers:
(1) 2012 winner – OFFCDT B.R. Damon 8235467, BFTS.
- J.R. Bartram and R.A. Kee Sword of Honour. Awarded to an Air Force RAAF School of Technical Training graduate of an aerospace related initial employment training mustering:
(1) 2012 winner – AC J.A. Tilley 8580018, 1SQN.
- Lipshut Family Bursary. An educational bursary awarded to an outstanding airman of the rank of corporal or below to enable them to undertake full-time tertiary studies with a view to commissioning:
(1) 2012 winner – LAC S.I. Lightly 8517549, 33SQN.
- McCarthy Rowbottom Jones Memorial Award. Awarded to recognise outstanding contributions to ADF operational health support by Air Force health personnel whose actions exemplify the Health Services Wing motto of ‘Compassion, Skill and Courage’:
(1) 2012 winner – FLTLT L. Molloy 8443373, 1EHS.
- SQNLDR W.T. Riggs Trophy. Awarded for the best official photograph of the year. The SQNLDR W.T. Riggs Trophy is a competition open to all Air Force members:
(1) 2012 winner – SGT S. P. Gidall 8207218, 28SQN AFIS FLT WLM.
- Thales Australia Leadership Sword. Awarded annually to the OTS graduate who has demonstrated the most outstanding leadership attributes and associated officer qualities while undergoing the initial officer training course:
(1) 2012 winner – OFFCDT B.R. Damon 8235467, BFTS.
- Warrant Officer of the Air Force Instructor of the Year Award. This award highlights the unquestionable importance of training and education to the Air Force and formally recognises airmen who excel in this field:
(1) 2012 winner – SGT A.T. Anderson 8198427, HOCU.
- Air Force Improvement Leadership Award. Awarded to an Air Force member up to the rank of SQNLDR or APS level 6 working in an Air Force program or supporting DMO System Program Office who has achieved excellence in continuous improvement:
(1) 2012 winner – SQNLDR D.R. Haggarty 8157088, HQCSG.
- Duke of Gloucester Cup. Awarded to the most proficient flying squadron:
(1) 2012 winner – 36SQN.
- Hawker Siddeley Trophy. Awarded to the most proficient RAAF Base over a calendar year. The criteria for selection of this award is also interpreted as including expeditionary combat support squadrons and combat support squadrons, due to the nature of the whole of base support function that they provide:
(1) 2012 winner – 23SQN
- Markowski Cup. Awarded to the most proficient non-flying, non-maintenance, non-reserve and non-training squadron, unit, wing or group not eligible to compete for any other awards:
(1) 2012 winner – 381ECSS.
- RAAF Maintenance Trophy. Awarded to the most proficient Air Force maintenance unit in recognition of their engineering and technical excellence and of the contribution made by all members of the unit toward the successful completion of allocated tasks:
(1) 2012 winner – 36SQN.
- Stonehaven Trophy. Awarded to the most proficient training unit over a calendar year.
(1) 2012 winner – SATC.
q. Air Force Improvement Team of the Year Award. Awarded to an Air Force Unit and/or DMO System Program Office for excellence in the delivery and sustainment of continuous improvement.
(1) 2012 winner – PC9 Sustainment Team.
Air Force Safety Awards
- The Air Force Safety Awards commend those individuals and units that display an outstanding level of innovation, excellence and commitment to the Air Force Safety Culture. I am pleased to announce the Air Force Safety Awards winners as follows:
- Category 3 – Best Workplace Health and Safety Management System. This award recognises demonstrated commitment to continuous improvement of WHS through the implementation of an integrated systems approach:
(1) 2012 winner – 303SQN (Australian Air Force Cadets).
- Category 5 – Best Individual Contribution to Health and Safety. This award recognises individuals whose contributions have made an exceptional difference to health and safety in their workplace:
(1) Category 5B: An outstanding contribution to Health and Safety by a WHS advisor, practitioner or a person with full–time WHS responsibilities – 2012 winner: WO2 D.T. Newstead 8245172, ASCENG.
