324 City of Randwick Squadron Australian Air Force Cadets will reach a significant milestone later this year when it turns 60 on the 15th of November. The unit is currently celebrating its diamond anniversary year and is planning a number of significant events to mark the occasion.
The Squadron was fortunate to receive a very significant gift from the Coogee Randwick Clovelly Sub branch and Mr Laurie Manning by the way of new Ceremonial swords for its parades. The Coogee Randwick Clovelly Sub branch, represented by Mr Barry Collins the President, Mr Laurie Manning, the Vice President and committee members John Clifford & Graham Keating recently presented the unit with two swords which are inscribed with the sub branch name as a lasting reminder of their association with 324 Squadron.
Mr Manning further donated an additional sword to the unit in honour of his brother who had served with the RAAF in World War 2. “While it would have been possible to recognise his contribution with a plaque, the purchase of a sword was a far more practical reminder of his contribution” Mr Manning said.
324 (City of Randwick) Squadron meets at Randwick Barracks on Wednesday evenings during the school term. It is open to young people aged 13-18. More information can be found at the Squadron’s Facebook page http://www.facebook.com/324SQNAAFC
