Group Captain (AAFC) Greg Williamson

GPCAPT (AAFC) Williamson became a cadet of No. 5 Flight NQAIRTC in Mackay in January 1966. He reached CUO rank, participated in an IACE exchange to the USA and was awarded an RAAF Flying Scholarship.  In August 1972 he enlisted in the RAAF Reserve as an AC General Hand and was posted to No 5 FLT NQSQN ATC as an Instructor. Apart from a couple of periods where his public life forced him onto the Unallotted List, the Commander has had a lifetime of service with Cadets. He reached the rank of FLTLT(AIRTC) in SEP 1986 and spent most of his instructing career at 5FLT / 105SQN. In JUN 2004 he was appointed OC 1WG at the rank of WGCDR (AAFC). Highlights of his time as OC were the introduction of the first online electronic approvals system in the AAFC and the opening of 111 SQN Mt Isa. From JAN 2010 to DEC 2011 he was DCDR-AAFC.

The Greg brings a wealth of business, political, and aviation experience to the AAFC senior leadership team. He is currently the Mayor of Mackay, and was previously employed as Regional General Manager for Queensland and the Northern Territory at Chandler MacLeod. He was also the founding General Manager of a national aerospace staffing firm – Aero Ready – which supplied aircraft maintenance staff for defence and RPT in Australia and in Saudi Arabia for the Royal Saudi Air Force. As a current licenced pilot aviation has always been a part of his life.
